Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was a prolific 17C Flemish baroque painter. He is well known for his counter Reformation altarpieces, portraits, landscapes and history paintings of mythological and allegorical subjects.
Important works of Art include:

The Apotheosis of Henri IV and the Proclamation of the Regency of Marie de Medicis 1621 - 1625, painted by Rubens and is held in the Musee du Louvre.
