Edgar Degas (1834-1917), in addition to van Gogh, Cezanne and Gauguin is one of the most important pioneers of modern art. Nevertheless Degas exhibitions are a rare event. After he had left behind Impressionism in 1880, Degas came into his bold and headstrong late work which is the undisputed highlight of his career. The large exhibition at the Fondation Beyeler is devoting itself to his techniques and motifs rich late work and shows images of dancers and famous jockeys, female nudes and landscapes.
