Pieraccini Collection Exhibition, Ateneum Art Museum, Helsinki, Finland

The autumn season at Ateneum is dedicated to Italian art. The Viiva Italia exhibition showcases the leading trends and artists who transformed modern Italian art in the 20th century, including Giorgio Morandi, Massimo Campigli, Marino Marini and Giorgio de Chirico.

Viiva Italia presents around 300 works of art by 42 Italian artists, including prints, drawings and watercolours. Some of the artists and their works will be exhibited in Finland for the first time ever. The exhibition includes both abstract art and works whose subjects range from portraits to landscapes and still lifes. The character of the Viiva Italia exhibition is colourful and surprising. Viewers are invited to examine how each artist used lines ("viiva" = "line" in Finnish) to express themselves individually.

The works of art in the exhibition are part of a uniquely broad collection of 20th-century Italian masters donated to the Ateneum Art Museum. The Rolando and Siv Pieraccini Collection includes over 700 prints, drawings and watercolours. In addition to those mentioned above, the collection includes such names as Emilio Greco, Giacomo Manzù, Gino Severini, Alberto Burri, Carlo Carrà and Alberto Magnelli. Rolando Pieraccini started his collection in the early 1960s when he became acquainted with artists from the renowned "Urbino school", who are well represented in the collection.
