In the autumn of 2014, the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is opening an international exhibition on colour in ancient sculpture.
It will tell the story of something beyond the reach of the sculptor: Colour, a fourth dimension.
As colour return to the white marble surfaces, so long accepted conceptions of our shared classical heritage will be challenged and up-rooted. An undreamt of sensuality and immediacy takes over. Classical Antiquity closes in on us.
Spectacular ancient sculptures will be on show together with experimental reconstructions of their original polychromy. They will be accompanied by a presentation of the sophisticated methods of interdisciplinary research which are providing us with new insights.
The exhibition – entitled The Fourth Dimension: Colour in Ancient Sculpture – will be a both enriching and fascinating experience.
