Descriptions of the winter, the most fascinating of all seasons. The exhibition shows the impact of winter on European art, mainly painting, but also art collection objects from the late Middle Ages to the present.

The exhibition shows works by important painters such as Pieter Bruegel the Elder., Hendrick Avercamp, Jacob Ruisdael, Jan van Goyen, William Turner, Francisco de Goya, Caspar David Friedrich, Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Edvard Munch and Anselm Kiefer as well as Peter Paul Rubens and Sir Joshua Reynolds. It will feature about 150 paintings and a series of sculptures, tapestries and porcelain, ivory and silver objects. The exhibition benefited particularly from loans from the Musée d'Orsay, as well as from the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Following the exhibition it will travel to the Kunsthaus Zurich.
