Ateneum Art Museum houses the largest and most significant collections of art in Finland, including the best loved Finnish masterpieces.
Ateneum's collections feature classics from Akseli Gallen-Kallelato Helene Schjerfbeck, in all covering the period from the 1750s to the work of artists who began their career in the 1950s. Thus there are also works from the 21st century in Ateneum's collections.
In addition to its comprehensive collection of Finnish prints, Ateneum also has a handsome selection of Nordic and European prints. The largest single collection is that of Japanese woodcuts.
The collection of drawings, sketches, watercolours and sketchbooks provides an overview of Finnish art history fromAlexander Lauréus to the present day.
Ateneum Art Museum also has a fine collection of international art, among its gems the works of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin.
Tuesday and Friday 10am–6pm, Wednesday and Thursday 10am–8pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am–5pm, Monday closed.
